The Meridian Symphony Orchestra prepares for its new season

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – Whether you like orchestral music or not, the Meridian Symphony offers something for everyone and this new season is no different.

For 62 years, the Meridian Symphony Orchestra has been part of the Queen City music scene and this is their theme this year.

“We’re focusing on ‘The Queen City Shines,’ talking about all the wonderful things in Meridian,” explained MSO Director Carra Purvis. The wonderful talent, architecture, places and artists we have.

Meridian has spawned a full lineup of talented performers and the MSO wants to embrace that in the new season.

“We also have American swing, jazz and a bit of everything,” said Carra Purvis. “Even if it’s something you don’t recognize or know, there will be something you will do.”

The opening night, September 10, is called European Colors and features pianist Ilya Yakushev. The following shows are titled Latin Fire, Hometown Harmonies, American Swing and Modern Melodies. Unlike many cities of this size, Meridian has a symphony orchestra and the experience is amazing.

“You heard it, you might not realize it,” Purvis said. “Yes, you have to come to the Riley Center, you have to sit in this beautiful theater, you have to experience it all around you and hear it at least once.”

You can buy tickets for the new season starting next week. Visit the MSO website to learn more.
