Space-themed performance to feature original composition by award-winning composer

The Firdaus Orchestra, the pioneering all-female musical ensemble led by the Academy and Grammy Award-winning composer AR Rahman, will close Space Week at Expo 2020 Dubai on Saturday 23 October. The orchestra will render a stellar space-themed repertoire comprising of Western classical music and an original composition by Rahman.

Starting at 7 p.m. at Expo 2020’s Jubilee Park, the Firdaus Orchestra, led by conductor Yasmina Sabbah and representing a mix of musical talent from the Arab world, will bring its haunting showcase to the Week of the Week celebrations. Expo space.

The hour-long performance will feature “Also Sprach Zarathustra,” the theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey, as well as music from Star Wars and ET – Adventures on Earth. It will also include “Palladio” by Karl Jenkins, “Symphony No. 5” by Beethoven and a grand finale by AR Rahman who will present an exclusive new composition, Humanitas-Proorismós-Al Amal – an ode from the composer to the explorers of space. “Al Amal” is the Arabic word for “Hope,” which, fortuitously, is also the name of the first Arab mission to Mars.

AR Rahman said: “Knowing the unknown is the quest for life, and in exploring space we are exploring ourselves.”

Expo ticket holders wishing to attend the orchestra’s inaugural performance on Saturday must arrive early. Due to the limited capacity of the site, access will be granted on a first come, first served basis. Exhibition tickets can be purchased online at www.expo2020.com.

From October 17 to 23, Expo 2020 Space Week welcomes astronauts, thought leaders and other space experts – showcasing the latest innovations in space research and travel and providing a platform to discuss critical issues.
